TRIPLE THREAT OLDIES

It's been a while since anything has been posted on THE KEEPER OF LOST DREAMZ....but I think every body's wait will be well worth it. Today is the grand, 1st time preview of the TRIPLE THREAT OLDIES SERIES. I've been working on this series with two big time soul blogosphere players.....WARPATHRUKA from http://suicidalboomerang.blogspot.com/ and my partner SOLOE from http://tomorrowsvelvetdreamz.blogspot.com/ .

This is a project that was specially produced for THE KEEPER OF LOST DREAMZ. These tracks are primarily slow to mid-tempo souldies that have that classic O.G. SOUL - LOWRIDER SOUND. Hopefully you will enjoy this compilation that required much hard work to produce. Tentatively we do have other volumes planned for the future depending on the success of this debut album.

Special props go out to WARPATHRUKA for finding the time in her day to help us get this one completed. She's currently a very busy woman serving in our U.S. Military.....so once again a big thanks to her for donating her time to this project and a big thanks to her and her fellow soldiers that serve and protect the United States.

Another big shout out goes to my partner in soul music crime (it must be a crime to put out comps this good!) SOLOE. SOLOE worked his magic in editing, packaging and providing the music link for this album.

To get this piece of history just leave a comment and your email address in the comment section and the download link will be passed to yourself.

Harmony In Soul - Volume 2

Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys & Girls , do we have a treat in store for you today, courtesy of Dusty Rose, our Chicago soul queen. Are you sitting comfortably..then I'll begin. Ever picked up a record or cd, looked at the listing and thought...mmm, tasty? This compilation, Harmony in Soul Vol.2 is one of those. I'm sitting here at my kitchen table, midnight, kids in bed and asleep, dog at my feet, cup of tea and chocolate biscuits to hand, headphones on, so I won't disturb any one...this is my time and I'm going to savour it! Your "drug" of choice and environment may differ, but I'm sure you know that feeling...good music to savour..what could be better? Well, this record is for you. I think we have something here for everyone but I'll just point out a few choice cuts that have taken my fancy and transport me to my own musical "desert island" For those who favour the "doo wop" sound, check out 14 Karat Soul and their accapella version of "Stand By Me" and the medley by Street Corner Symphony. Does "beautiful" suffice? And what about the Svilles "Creation" and Essex's "Gee Whizz? For those who favour "sweet soul", you really are spoilt for choice.I'll direct you first to the Winstons' "Colour Him Father", possibly an alernate version? This is, I must admit" one of my all-time faves, love it to bits! And what about the Five Stairsteps, "You Waited Too Long" and the Escorts, "You Can Even Be My Friend"...blissful! There are later era tracks also, that different production feel, but still in the "sweet soul" vein...the opening track by Carrie Lucas and Zoom's "Love Sessions" may well tickle your fancy. I'll just highlight also Special Delivery's "Come Back With Love" and you'll see "Why Im A Happy Man". So folks, hit the download button with confidence, no filler here. Guaranteed or your money back.....but please send it first! And if you like it, please be sure to make your appreciation known to Dusty, our Chi-Town Rose, and to pester the G-Man for, hopefully, further volumes in the series. Enjoy!

I Guess That Don't Make Me A Loser - THE BROTHERS OF SOUL

Another tight drop for the listeners 2nite, brought to you by my partner The San Antonio Sniper.....Pobre' Riche.

The Brothers of Soul were a vocal trio composed of Fred Bridges, Richard Knight, and Bobby Eaton, who released several singles in a smooth, uptown, Motown-derived vein. Their biggest hit was 1968's "I Guess That Don't Make Me a Loser," released on Boo Records, which scraped the lower reaches of the R&B Top 40. It has since become a soul collectible, and also gained the group a following among the Latino community in Southern California. Some of their other single releases included "Can't Get You Off of My Mind and "Candy." Bridges, Knight, and Eaton also worked as a songwriting team, most prominently for Ruby Andrews during the late '60s. By the mid-'70s, the Brothers of Soul had broken up; Eaton became a session singer, while Bridges and Knight continued on as songwriters, getting a couple of compositions recorded by the Four Tops.

THE SUPERBS GREATEST HITS

From our man out of Sacramento....PANCHO.......comes a very tight cd for the listeners....The Greatest Hits Of The Superbs.

The Superbs, from California, USA, were one of the best mid-60s sweet-soul groups to meld doo-wop harmonies into the sound of soul. The members were Eleanor ‘Punkin’ Green’ (lead), Walter White, Bobby Swain, Gordy Harmon and Ronny Cook. Green possessed a soprano lead that sounded much like a male falsetto and it was an era when falsetto-led groups were regularly on the charts. After their first record in 1964 on Lew Bedell’s Dore label, ‘Storybook Of Love’, flopped, Harmon left to form the Whispers (the Whispers were the Superbs’ labelmates and were likewise outstanding in merging doo-wop with soul). The next record, ‘Baby Baby All The Time’, with its relaxed lope, proved a success in 1964. Similar-sounding and equally appealing follow-ups were ‘Sad Sad Day’ (1964) and ‘Baby’s Gone Away’ (1965). Around this time Swain left the group to form the Entertainers Four, who also recorded for Dore. He was replaced by Lawrence Randall. Green left in 1966 to get married and the group regrouped, but the magic was gone and by the 70s the group had broken up.

1. Storybook of Love
2. Your Eyes
3. One Bad Habit
4. Baby, Baby All the Time
5. It Hurts So Much
6. Baby's Gone Away
7. I Was Blind

10. Sad, Sad Day
11. Baby's Gone Away [#]
12. Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)
13. Little Girl
14. Get Ready for Love
15. If You Don't Know Me by Now [Live]

Storm Warning, Vol. 1: Philly Original Soul Classics

This is a fabulous album dropped off by our man in Sweden.......FLUX IS KRUX.

This CD documents how some of the soul powerhouses of 70s Philadelphia soul grew out of the formative period of the 60s.....represented here in this collection of soul sides from labels controlled by the Jamie/Guyden music family. This collection gathers up tunes by artists who had substantial success in the 60s as well as the early work of those who would later come to dominate the Philadelphia soul music of the 70s. Some of the more commercially lucrative sides here are "Right On The Tip Of My Tongue" and "The Touch Of You" by Brenda and the Tabulations and Fantastic Johnny C's "Boogaloo Down Broadway". Other artists here had little or no commercial impact nationally at the time but were more successful locally. Also here are recordings by Kenny Gamble, who, along with his musical partner Leon Huff, went on to write and produce some of the most memorable soul music of the 70s, including many of the hits of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, who are represented here by work done here before their collaboration with Gamble and Huff. While not loaded with recognizable hits, this compilation gives a glimpse of some of the music that laid the foundation for the explosion of Philadelphia smooth soul that dominated the charts in the following decade.

1. You're Number One - The Volcanos
2. Boogaloo Down Broadway - The Fantastic Johnny C.
3. Standing in the Darkness - Ethics, Ethics
Storm Warning - The Volcanos
